Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept that
encourages organizations to consider the interests of
society by taking responsibility for the impact of the
organization's activities on customers, employees, shareholders,
communities and the environment in all aspects of its
operations. This obligation is seen to extend beyond
the statutory obligation to comply with legislation
and sees organizations voluntarily taking further steps
to improve the quality of life for employees and their
families as well as for the local community and society
at large.
Corporate social responsibility is
the commitment of businesses to contribute to sustainable
economic development by working with employees, their
families, the local community and society at large to
improve their lives in ways that are good for business
and for development.
An essential component of our corporate
social responsibility is to care for the community.
We endeavor to make a positive contribution to the underprivileged
communities by supporting a wide range of socio-economic,
educational and health initiatives. Many of the community
projects and programs are driven by active participation
from our employees. Our commitment to address important
societal needs extends throughout our philanthropic
outreach programs driven by the HRI.
Corporate
Social Responsibility and the Investment Climate
Many businesses in emerging markets are realizing
benefits from corporate social responsibility initiatives,
with quantified improvements in revenue and market access,
productivity, and risk-management. While emerging-market
companies tend to focus more on short-term cost savings
and revenue gains, intangibles, such as brand value
and reputation issues, are more significant for companies
in developed countries. The contemporary corporate social
responsibility agenda, however, is relatively immature
in all countries. Despite widespread rhetoric, its impact
is still patchy. In practice, implementation of this
agenda by many companies is shallow and fragmented.
Governments are beginning to view
corporate social responsibility as cost-effective means
to enhance sustainable development strategies, and as
a component of their national competitiveness strategies
to attract foreign direct investment and position their
exports in global markets. There is a significant opportunity
for the public sector to harness business enthusiasm
for corporate social responsibility to help achieve
its goal of reducing poverty. The challenge today for
the public sector in developing countries is to identify
corporate social responsibility priorities and incentives
that are meaningful in their national context, and to
play a role in strengthening appropriate local initiatives.
What We Do
 |
| We help you to
put your stakeholders in the frame through CSR |
Since its inception
in 1996, the HRI has worked to support the underprivileged
in society and enrich their lives. Health and education
have been identified as the primary objectives in the
community development process. The HRI works relentlessly
to ensure improvement of general health and spread of
non-formal education among all members in the community.
A number of focused initiatives have been implemented
to bring about general health awareness and improve
the level of education & awareness. As a part of
the healthcare initiatives Monthly clinics, counselling
sessions, health camps are regularly held to promote
general health and well-being in the community. We are
also in the phase of framing the community CHVs based
Holistic Health Empowerment Initiative for the community
and by the community.
It has successfully
implementing projects in four key focus areas:
- Healthcare.
- " Social rehabilitation and rural upliftment.
(Free rationing & Basic Amenities to disabled,
disaster displaced and most marginalized.)
- " Learning and education (Informal Computer
Education Centres).
- " Employment Generation Activities.(Training
& Workshops for IGAs)
EDUCATION: Education
too has been a primary focus area for the HRI, and a
number of initiatives have been designed to promote
non-formal education in the community. Some schools
have been given computers to promote ICT education in
the neighbouring rural village area of Kullu district.
Simultaneously, ICT education programs have also been
deployed to spread computer literacy. The response to
all these initiatives has been overwhelming and the
HRI is now taking up more initiatives to address the
requirement.
SOCIO - ECONOMIC: W/SHG Formations
for IGAs. Training & Distributing of knitting &
sewing machines (so far about 2000 Nos.) to the rural
poor women of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for Income
Generation Activities (IGA). Providing Monthly Ration
to nearly 500 deprived Families. Arranging & distributing
blankets, clothes and household goods with some rehabilitation
arrangements at any disaster or natural calamity as
Himachal & Uttarakhand is disaster prone zone. Employment
to local unemployed youth at CSR associates. Encouragement
& Training to handicrafts, providing vocational
skills to unemployed.
The business benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) isn't just about
doing the right thing. It offers direct business benefits.
Building a reputation as a responsible business sets
you apart. Many consumers prefer to buy from ethical
businesses. Companies often prefer suppliers who demonstrate
responsible policies, to minimize the risk of any damage
to their own reputations. Some customers don't just
prefer to deal with responsible companies, but insist
on it. For example, sales of "environmentally friendly"
products continue to grow - and these products often
sell at a premium price. Amul India became as famous
for its approach to responsible business as for its
products. The company has grown dramatically while continuing
to focus on CSR, Started in 1946 in small village of
Khera District, Gujrat against British Polson Dairy
Company. There are several such names.
There are other benefits too:
- " A good reputation makes it easier to recruit
employees.
- " Employees stay longer, reducing the costs
and disruption of recruitment and retraining.
- " Employees are better motivated and more productive.
- " CSR helps ensure you comply with regulatory
requirements.
- " Activities such as involvement with the local
community are ideal opportunities to generate positive
press coverage.
- " Good relationships with local authorities
make doing business easier. See the page in this guide
on how to work with the local community.
- " Understanding the wider impact of your business
can help you think up profitable new products and
services.
- " CSR can make you more competitive, and reduces
the risk of sudden damage to your reputation (and
sales). Investors recognize this, and are more willing
to finance you.
- " Active Participation in the activity and
community development work. Promotion of organization
& organizational identity in the activity areas
of Help Rural India, a kind of trust & brand building.
